CALENDAR OF EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES (OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS)

Tuesday 8 May 2018

All members of the Retired Teachers’ Association but in particular the members of the North-East Branch are invited to our Annual Outing which will be on Tuesday 8th May, when we plan to visit the Seamus Heaney Home Place, Bellaghy. We assemble at 9.15am at the Riverside Retail Park, Coleraine, for departure at 9.30am. On arrival at the “Home Place”, tea/coffee & scones will be served at 10.30am. The Tullyglass House Hotel, Ballymena will be the venue for a Carvery Lunch at 2.15pm app. We hope to be back in Coleraine by 5.00pm. The total cost of the trip, including coach, coffee, entrance fee and lunch, will be £28 per person. To maintain this price of £28, it is essential that we have at least 30 members and friends participating in our outing. Please note that friends, as always, are very welcome.
The menu for the Carvery Lunch (from which you may choose on the day itself) comprises:

A choice of two Homemade Soups served with Freshly Baked Bread Rolls.
Selection of Hot Starters;
Cocktail Sausages, Chicken Wings, Barbecue Ribs, Prawn Crackers.
Selection of Cold Salads;
Savoury Rice, Five Bean Salad, Curried Rice, Coleslaw, Pasta Salad, Tossed Salad, Egg Mayonnaise, Tomato Salad, Cucumber Salad, Smoked Mackerel, Meat Loaf.
Selection of Locally Sourced Meat & Sauce Dishes;
Roast Antrim Turkey or Roast Topside of Beef or Roast Loin of Pork & Sugar Baked Ham.
All served with a selection of Country Vegetables & Potatoes.
Selection of Homemade Sweets Baked Daily;
Pavlova, Chocolate Fudge Cake, Banoffee Pie, Profiteroles, Strawberry Gateau;
Cheesecake Selection, Apple Crumble & Fresh Fruit Salad.
All served with Choice of Fresh Cream, Ice-cream or Custard.

The North-Down Branch would like to invite you to a wonderful 2-hour trip on the Lady of the Lake Cruiser, Lower Lough Erne plus evening meal at Aughnacloy and coach-trip on Wednesday 9th May 2018. The cost per person will be £29.50. The day will comprise coach-travel from the McKee Clock, Bangor at 10am, picking up at Bangor Road Church, Holywood at 10.15am. Then on to Augher for lunch at The Station House Restaurant. Continuing to the Inishclare Jetty Manor House Marina for a 2-hour scenic tour on the Lady of the Lake Cruiser, Lower Lough Erne with on-board refreshments & bar facilities. Later, we travel to Aughnacloy for our evening meal at Sally’s Restaurant, which is included in the cost of the trip, returning to Bangor for 8.30pm. Lunch in Augher will be paid directly by yourself to the restaurant on the day of the trip but must be ordered beforehand. We are certain that this trip will appeal to many members as it is always over-subscribed and numbers are limited to 50 so a swift reply is advisable and certainly no later than Friday 27th April as we need to confirm numbers by then. All members of the Retired Teachers’ Association but in particular the members of the Tyrone Branch are invited to our Annual Outing which will be on Thursday 17th May, when we plan to visit the Seamus Heaney Centre, Bellaghy. Our coach leaves Lidl Car Park, Dromore Road, Omagh at 9.45am. We will have tea/coffee & scones in Lissan House, Cookstown followed by a tour of the house. Then we will proceed to the Seamus Heaney Centre, Bellaghy where we have booked a tour for our group. Lunch is available afterwards in the restaurant for you to purchase. Our evening meal has been booked in the Glenavon House Hotel, Cookstown. Friends are, as always, very welcome so please feel free to invite them! The cost of this outing is £30 per person to include coach-trip, tea/coffee and tour of Lissan House, entrance to the Seamus Heaney Centre and evening meal.

All members of the Retired Teachers’ Association but in particular the members of the Belfast Branch are invited to join us for our Annual Coach Trip. Following the very successful coach-outing last year, why change a good thing? We intend to do it again. As always, all members and friends are most welcome. The cost will be £25 per person to include the coach-trip and tea/coffee & scones at the Londonderry Arms, Carnlough.
The itinerary for the day will be:

9.30am         Pick-up in Glengall Street (on the Grand Opera House side of the street). The coach will be a “Richmond” coach;
10.30am        Stop at Londonderry Arms, Carnlough for tea/coffee & scones;
12.30pm        Arrive at Portrush. Free time for a meal, shopping, sight-seeing etc;
5.00pm          Depart from Portrush;
6.30pm          Arrive back in Glengall Street.

The 76th Annual Conference of the Retired Teachers' Association Northern Ireland will take place at 11.00am on Wednesday, 17th October 2018 in the Glenavon House Hotel, Cookstown, beginning with complimentary tea/coffee & scones from 9.30am. Following a very brief AGM, our guest speaker, Alan Tolson, Platinum Financial Planning Ltd., will give a presentation on post-retirement planning, Individual Wealth Management, Inheritance Tax planning, Protection Planning, the Power of Attorney and Protecting your Inheritance followed by a Question & Answer Session. David Canning, Chair General Teaching Council N.I. will address us on current issues as will Gerry Murphy, Secretary INTO and Cumper Carney, President UTU. Other guests will include Sandra E. Douglas from the newly-formed NEU. The Ulster Tatler magazine will be taking photographs for publication in their November edition. A generous lunch, (subsidised) at £12.50 only, will be served at 1.00pm. The Annual Report containing details of the conference, lunch and speakers will be posted out to all members around the second week of September. We hope to continue to encourage more recently-retired teachers, our newer members particularly, to attend this popular event in our calendar.
